TikTok Is The Most Downloaded App In Three Months Of 2022

Both in the App Store and on Google Play, the top three downloads for the first quarter of the year look like this - TikTok, Instagram, Facebook.

The Sensor Tower resource summed up the results of the first quarter of 2022 by releasing a report on the number of downloads of popular applications. The most downloaded app was, predictably, TikTok, a short video sharing platform owned by Chinese company ByteDance.

The top five most downloaded apps, taking into account the activity of users from all over the world in the App Store and Google Play, looks like this: TikTok (the number of downloads exceeded 175 million), Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram. As of 2018, TikTok has been the most downloaded app worldwide, according to the report. In terms of downloads, Google Play occupies about two-thirds of the market, leaving the rest of the share to the App Store.

Data collected separately for the US and Europe do not differ significantly. In the US, TikTok has held the top spot for every period since the first quarter of 2021. The last time another app ousted TikTok from the top spot was in the fourth quarter of 2020, it was the video conferencing platform Zoom. In Europe, the top five global downloads have been virtually unchanged for a year now. And while WhatsApp has been the leader in the App Store for seven quarters, TikTok's leading positions on Google Play during the same period ensured it ultimately ranked first in the region.
