Truecaller has been an indispensable tool for users looking for an effective way to identify and block spam calls for many years, and many choose it over the standard functionality of their phones. The developing company recently integrated this service with Microsoft Azure AI Speech. As a result, users with access to the AI Assistant now have the ability to record their voice. These recordings will be used to create an AI version of their voice.

The AI Assistant from Truecaller meticulously analyzes incoming calls and informs users about the motives behind each call. This information helps decide whether to answer the call personally or allow the virtual assistant to handle it. This feature was introduced in the Truecaller app back in 2022. Initially, it was available only in certain countries and offered several pre-set voices. Today, users have the option to add personalization by recording their own voice.

At the recently held Build conference, Microsoft showcased a new personalized voice feature in Azure AI Speech that allows users not only to record but also to replay voices. However, as reported in the Microsoft blog, access to personalized voice is limited and available only in certain cases (e.g., when using voice assistants). Moreover, the company has established clear usage rules, including mandatory consent from the recorded individuals and a prohibition on imitation without permission.

The ability to equip an AI assistant with one's own voice adds a touch of futurism to users' daily lives. Yet, how effectively and efficiently the personalized AI voice will perform its tasks compared to traditional voice messaging functions will be revealed in time.
