AWS Launches Nova AI

At the re:Invent conference, Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveiled Nova, its latest series of multimodal AI models. This line-up features four text-focused models: Micro, Lite, Pro, and Premier. While Micro, Lite, and Pro are currently available to AWS customers, the Premier model is slated for release in early 2025. Additionally, AWS introduced Nova Canvas for generating images and Nova Reel for creating videos, both of which are now live on the platform.

Each of the Nova models has separate functions. Micro works only with text, providing the highest processing speed. Lite handles text, images, and video. Pro balances accuracy, speed, and cost, making it suitable for a variety of tasks. Premier is designed for complex tasks and tailoring solutions to specific needs. The models support large context windows that will expand to 2 million tokens by 2025.

Canvas and Reel expand the creative capabilities of the Nova line-up. Canvas generates and edits images, while Reel creates six-second videos based on text requests or images. Support for longer videos is expected in the future. Both tools are equipped with protection mechanisms such as watermarks and content moderation to prevent abuse.

AWS plans to release a speech-to-speech model in early 2025 and a universal any-to-any model in the middle of the year. The speech-to-speech model will be able to analyze the tone, timbre, and rhythm of speech, creating natural, human voices. The universal model, in turn, will allow you to easily convert text, speech, images, and videos, opening up new opportunities for translation, content creation, and task automation.
